An excerpt from Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg’s class day lecture at Harvard Business School last week:

We need to start talking about how women underestimate their abilities compared to men and how for women, but not men, success and likeability are negatively correlated. That means that as a woman is more successful in your workplaces, she will be less liked. This means that women need a different form of management and mentorship, a different form of sponsorship and encouragement than men. (more…)

Congrats, Zuck: Now You’ve Joined The Ranks of These Silicon Valley Power Couples

The past few days have been big days for romance here in the Silicon Valley.

Almost immediately after the Facebook IPO, billionaire Mark Zuckerberg married his long-time girlfriend, Priscilla Chan. Sure, he may have waited until the day after the IPO in order to protect his money from California’s communal property law, but nobody can say the backyard ceremony wasn’t sweet and sentimental.

Hot off the heels of Zuck’s nuptials, there was yet another Facebook wedding; long-time employees Christina Holsberry and Paul Janzer tied the knot in front of several other Facebook-ers. Check out the list below for three more of Silicon Valley’s power couples.

1. David Goldberg and Sheryl Sandberg – SurveyMonkey + Facebook

This duo may give Zuck and his bride a run for their money. David is currently the CEO at SurveyMonkey, after working at high-level positions at Yahoo! and Benchmark Capital. Sheryl should need no introduction – she is the COO at Facebook and has been named of the 100 most influential people of 2012 by TIME magazine. The couple has been married for nine years. (more…)

Five of Tech’s Hottest and Most Successful Young Women

While Silicon Valley may be dominated by what many consider to be a veritable boys’ club, it is impossible to overlook that some of the industry’s biggest power players are women. Sheryl Sandberg and Marisa Mayer, at Facebook and Google, respectively, are A++ list celebrities in the tech world, and these other women are on the fast track to joining them.

1. Ruchi Sanghvi – Dropbox

Born and raised in the industrial town of Pune, India, Ruchi Sanghvi has come a long way. Starting at Facebook in 2005, Ruchi was the social network’s first female engineer. After graduating from Carnegie Mellon University, Ruchi worked full-time building the online behemoth that Facebook has become today. After leaving Facebook in 2010 to found a collaboration startup called Cove with her husband, Cove was quickly acquired by Dropbox with the intention of making great use of Ruchi’s renowned engineering talents.
